Interesting to see Vienna make it the top 10 list. Used that station extensively for a couple of years, seemed perfectly safe with mostly working professional folks and families as the main groups of commuters..
I wonder why the Catholic University/Brookland Station attracts so much criminal activity. My only theory is that university student population is the perfect demographic for smartphone and bicycle usage. Lots of students own both products. Plus, I think many students, who grew up in the suburbs or other low-crime regions, are a little carefree with their iPhone usage in public.
Never use your iPhone as a watch if someone asks for you the time.
Never walk outside at night while listening to music or podcasts through your earbuds. Especially if you are holding the device in your hand.
Never display your iPhone on Metro train platforms or in train cars during late evening hours. You can hold off on the texting, Facebook checking or game playing until you get home.
Basically, keep your phone in the pocket when in the Metro system and on the streets at night.

Brookland has a sizable low income populaion, a lot actually.

due to the demographics i completely agree. Plus you have students from nearby (HU and Trinity) that can live in Brookland as it is not only convenient but cheaper than near Trinity and HU.
Hey! My station is in top 5! I'd like to see how many people got killed, raped, fights, etc on these top 5's. Because theft? Who cares. Most smart people in metropolitan cities have insurance on their phone. But violent crime is another story all together.
