so these new start-ups are not connected to the fed, just federal contractors, but
the fed is still cutting, tapering and clipping the budget.
what what wait! these people always had money and good jobs anyway, so they
were good before they even started.
it's just more of the same: keeping all the money at the top and none
of it is trickling down to the lower classes.
You have a problem with people who take on the high-risk exercise of starting a new business because they happened to be employed before they did so? It's not like this start-up was set aside for a homeless guy, and this other dude swooped in and took his start up.
I get the growing disparity of wealth issue as a major problem. An article about people putting everything on the line to create new services and new jobs out of nothing, in an economy that sees the vast majority of startups fail, doesn't seem like an appropriate backdrop to make the statements above.
^ no problem mon. they can do what they want to do but it won't benefit the overall society, just them and people on their level, so it's kinda phony, but you don't have to
agree.

^2 maybe, so i guess whatever was misproven wasn't any better.

This is not breaking news.
There has always been a business economy in DC that was in no way related to the government.
Flippers with Pac-Man, Q*bert & Donkey Kong were as far away from the federal government as you could get but yet you were still within walking distance of the White House.

That's funny. I don't think they're talking about video arcades. Also, it's arguable that unless Flippers was generating revenue outside the DC area, it was there in part because of the Federal government.
The redevelopment happening goes beyond CVS, Wal Mart, and other chains. There's that component, but there are also local restaurants and bars opening, local hardware and grocery stores, and new bakeries, etc. that aren't chains. Lots of creative energy happening from local folks.

Bakeries as in overpriced cupcakes? LOL
In all seriousness that creative energy has always been here.
There have always been local restaurants, local bars & local grocery stores.
It's nothing new.
As far as video arcades there were Flippers, Station Breaks, Time Outs & Tilts everywhere in DC, Maryland & Virginia.
The demographic was mostly skateboarders (yours truly) punks & metal head stoners.

I only chose Flippers as an example because it was on the complete opposite side of the spectrum as you can get from the federal government.
Now if you want to get into other extreme opposites we can always discuss THE GAYETY.
I am always down to discuss the old DC.
Preferably the old DC that I personally remember and not the older DC that we both know about but only from reading about it in books.
