We may be moving to the DC area for my husband's job, but before we decide whether to take it, we want to consider the school system and quality of life there. We currently live in a suburb of another large city and like the suburban lifestyle so long as the commute is less than 45 minutes with traffic. The job would be in Restin, so which areas in/around there have good schools? We have an elementary school-aged child, so at the very least, we would like a top notch elementary school for now. Where we currently live, private school is in our future, but it would be great if we didn't have to go that route. Also, our budget for a house would ideally be around the 400-600K. Is that realistic for a nice home in the area?
It's Reston. You are posting in the wrong forum. This is the forum for DC the city proper. There is a separate forum for the Virginia suburbs including Reston, a region referred to as Northern Virginia.

Restin schools may not be the best, but I'm a big fan of Herndon. What ages are your children? We just bought a home in a wonderful neighborhood in Herndon for $440k and are minutes from Reston. You may want to consider posting in the Northern Virginia forum instead of DC for better responses too. Good luck.
