Wow, I just got back from a 4 day vacation to DC. It was most definitely better and prettier than I thought it would be. But I think 4 days was enough. After every day, I was dead tired and full of information. There's only so much beauty and information you can soak up. I need time to process it. If one wants to see DC, I would recommend planning to take multiple trips, because there's really too much there to plan to see in one big pass through.

Also, I think I'm the only child in the US who did not have a middle school field trip to DC. There were massive swarms of school children pretty much everywhere we went. Is it always like this or is it just an end of the school year thing?

These are middle school and high school trips. It is really common.

Glad you enjoyed it! Yes, DC is a city with so many things to do that it requires several trips. All of the Smithsonians alone could take 2 weeks to see and enjoy. But with how quickly museum fatigue sets in, I agree that it's best to experience the city in spurts.

DC packs a big punch. It is also experiencing much more tourism these days. Record breaking.

I've only noticed lots of school trips during the spring. I think its a spring thing with most schools.

I am native to the DC area and have been living here for 40+ years. I continue to find a lot of things I haven't seen or done before.

There are always new things going on and nobody has seen or done it all.

London, Sydney, Paris and Tokyo, in my opinion.
