The DC area has the largest Ethiopian population in the country. But where is the cultural center of gravity of this community within the DMV?

NW DC and Silver Spring MD...Ethiopians (and Eritreans) however are scattered about many parts of the region. NOVA has a fair share of both in various parts of Fairfax, Prince William, and Alexandria (Route 1).

9th street NW was about to get designation as "Little Ethiopia" a number of years back, but push back from black native locals squashed that.

The Southern Towers (or Seminary Towers?) apartments in West Alexandria, have reportedly 40% Ethiopian tenants.

I notice some local black folks also had the same issue with Little Haiti being an actual designation in Miami.

What’s up with that?

Because of the history o U Street as an African American neighborhood.

It’s pretty silly. Neighborhoods change all the time. If that one block or a few blocks is straight up Ethiopian businesses then there should be no shame in it being called Little Ethiopia

116th is considered little French Africa in Harlem. Wonder if that same issue will occur if they ever want an actual designation!
