Hi everyone, I'm looking for an alternative venue for our wedding in June 2011. We are hoping to find an old house, lot, factory, firehouse, etc in which to hold our ceremony, somewhere in the DC area.
We are hoping to spend little to no money for the venue, aside from cleaning and decorating, but we are willing to put a good amount of elbow grease in to make it what we want.
Where could we find someone who owns a space like this? Would they be inclined to let us use it for one day, provided we clean up the space and clean after ourselves, especially if we are willing to pay a small amount for it?
You might try to contact the owners of the Wonder Bread Factory and see if you could rent it out. It was supposed to be rehabbed by now but I think those plans were put on hold due to the economy. This might be something that requires the assistance of a wedding coordinator--just someone to track down the owners and the proper authority for giving permission, to make sure the keys are picked up or the doors are unlocked, permits for a special event are obtained, any safety hazards are properly addressed, that the venue is properly shuttered afterwards, and turned back over to the owners.
Yeah, not really interested in Baltimore if we can avoid it. How would I find the contact information for the people who own the Wonder Bread Factory? Or any other property?
I'm sorry but I just have to ask because I am so curious, why on earth would you want to have your wedding in a run-down old factory or an abandoned lot? That just seems so gross and weddings are supposed to be nice. Surely you could find a decent venue at an affordable price that wasn't like that.
I believe the Wonder Bread factory re-development is being handled by Douglas Development Corp. You might just call their main switchboard and ask to talk to someone about it. The design of the renovation was handled by GTM Architects, they might be able to steer you in the right direction too.
