Greetings everyone. New here, so apologies if I'm posting in a section too broad for the topic. I am looking to buy some land in Ocean Shores and asking for feedback on the area. I've read older posts from ~2007 which put this area in a negative light, but as I understand since then the city upgraded the streets and plumbing. Market prices seem to be trending upwards from recent years as well. Can someone please describe their current experiences with the community. Thanks!

It's still an area with few year-around jobs and the home prices reflect that. Prices probably aren't going ~down~ but they're not going up as quickly as everywhere else in the region.

It's becoming a pretty good place to retire. If you don't need a full time job and you're an avid weather watcher, it's a great place to find a nice place on the ocean for not a lot of money.

Yeah I work in software development and can work from pretty much anywhere with good internet. Have been considering moving out there as well but the internet situation is a bit atrocious. Coworker who lives there is paying $250/month for mediocre internet with low data caps. But aside from retirees and folks able to work remotely there doesn't seem to be much going for the economy other than what summer tourism brings in.

It's not really much of a town - more of a wide spot in the road catering to tourists. If you enjoy proximity to a real downtown, you won't be happy here. If you don't care about that, then you could well be fine.

Look at Westport, Grayland, and Aberdeen/Hoquiam/Cosmopolis, which have up to Gigabit Internet from XFinity/Comcast. Coast Communications has the cable TV franchise for Ocean Shores.

XFinity Performance Internet: $69.95+
60Mps/5Mps download/upload
1000 GB data limit/month
