Well currently I'm residing in South Portland, Maine with my wife and daughter. So looking for apartments is a bit tough.
I'm mostly using craigslist, but have found that when I find something of interest and look up the apartment on apartmentratings.com. Most are getting horrible ratings.
So does anyone have personal experience with a good apartment living. We are looking at the westside (both of our jobs will be near the mall. Toys R Us for me and Borders books for her).
We are moving at the end of April, so i'm not going to start calling places for another few weeks.
Any help will be much appreciated.

Check out Black Lake Apartments. Black Lake Apartments - 1900 Black Lake Blvd. SW | Apartments.com
They're located close to HWY 101 and the Olympia mall on the west side.

Thank you, I looked it up though and it got rated 24 out of 100 on apartment ratings. Some of the recent reviews were like this one

Years at this apartment: 2009 - 2009

I recently moved out and now realize what terrible apartments these really are. Granted, apartments are not generally known to be quiet retreats, but this place is crazy! The amount of unruly children and teenagers stomping and yelling at all hours is truly insane! The police were called on several of my neighbors in the next building, at least two were taken away in handcuffs. A very annoying and unsettling thing to wake to at 2 am.
Parking is unreasonable, I almost always had to park really far away if I got off work after 5 pm. And the trash is way on the other side of the complex, no dumpsters close. I had to load the trash in my car. Gross!
As a result of having to park far away, my car was broken into. My alarm went off, but the police were not notified until I saw what had happened at 9 am the next morning. If I had heard my alarm, this would not have happened.
There is no security at this complex! No guards, no gates, no rent a cops, no cameras, nothing.
Final note: they took my security deposit and raked me for $200 extra, just like some other folks on here. I moved my things out and cleaned for two days straight, shampooing the rugs, scrubbing the walls, the place was spotless! Seems like a pattern with this complex. They know we can't do anything about it except write bad reviews about them on apartmentratings.com. Bunch of jerks."

Maybe you'd be better off renting a house. If you do it the right time of year you can get there before the Evergreen students. I rented a house there when I went to Evergreen, and it was in downtown Olympia, but many Evergreeners rented homes on the west side of Olympia.
