I know some coastal parts of Cornwall have record lows of like -4C which I found pretty amazing.

I thought you were dissatisfied with Vancouver because of its anemic summers and lack of sunshine

I don't like the climate here because it's too cold year round.. winter and summer. But if I had to choose between a hot summer and a mild winter.. I'd always take the mild winter. As much as I love hot weather, I absolutely detest cold weather and the mildness of the winters is actually one of the most important factors for me in determining how much I like the climate.

Is it frost in particular that you don't like? Fair Isle would gets less frost than Vancouver, but the wind in winter would make the real feel temp lower than Vancouver, a lot of the time I would think.

Ipswich for me. A lot warmer, and the extra thunder days would be good as well. Fair Isle is too grim by far.

I tend to think of southern UK summer as the same as here, but looking at the stats, I realize that June and September are quite a bit cooler for maximum temps than December and March are here. By our cool oceanic standards the UK seems to me to me, to only have 2 months of summer rather than 4.

Yes I hate frosts because they kill plants.. that's why the fewer frost days a climate has (preferably none!) the better it is for year round gardening which as you know something I really enjoy

The strong winds and cool summer temperatures really limits plant growth even in mild Scottish islands..

In fact, I don't think anything other then grass grows here

I think centuries of deforestation and grazing play a factor in that. Similar climates in coastal Northern BC and the Alaska panhandle have summers as cool and more frost and are often quite lush.

Northern BC and the Alaskan panhandle have much, much warmer summers then Fair Isle.
