Merry Christmas everyone from the Southeastern Hemisphere!
I just have one quick question with you: what is your forecast for Christmas Day?
Warm? Cool? Wet? Dry? Sunny? Foggy? Snowy? And how would you rate these conditions against your ideal christmas?
Predicted Forecast:
High Temp: 22.5ºC (72.5ºF)
Low Temp: 18.0ºC (64.4ºF)
Precipitation: 46 mm (1.81 in)
Precipitation Time: 16:00-23:59
Mean Humidity: 82%
Mean Dew Point: 17.1ºC (62.7ºF)
Wind: SE, 15 km/h (9.4 miles/h)
Sunshine: 0 hours
This wet, cloudy forecast contrasts with my ideal Christmas forecast quite significantly:
Ideal Forecast: (In the southern hemisphere)
High Temp: 28.7ºC (83.6ºF)
Low Temp: 15.8ºC (60.4ºF)
Precipitation: 2.6 mm (1.02 in)
Precipitation Time: 15:00-16:00
Mean Humidity: 62.7%
Mean Dew Point: 14.8ºC (58.6ºF)
Wind: SW, 20 km/h (12.5 miles/h)
Sunshine: 10.0 hours
Just for Christmas, I would like warmer-than usual weather; but still with an evening thunderstorm and drizzle. Sunny, hot and breezy conditions are desirable for Christmas; which the forecast partly fulfils. Hence, IMHO, it earns a C+.
High: 7C
Low: 4C
Wind: 15km/h E
Mean Humidity: 95%?
30% chance of light rain (<5mm)
Fog in the morning
Mostly cloudy after noon with 1 hour of sunshine
I rate it a C because it could be worse.
In terms of what's possible for my location at this time of year
-5C to 0C with snow would be an A
5-10C and dry & sunny or -15C to -5C with snow would be a B
5-10C with heavy rain or -10C to 0C with no snow would be a D
1-4C with heavy rain or -20C to -10C with no snow would be a E
<=-20C would be an F
a severe ice storm with power outages would be a Z
Ideal forecast
High: -1C
Low: -4C
Wind: 10km/h SE
Mean humidity: 70%
8cm of snow falling in the early AM hours
Cloudy in the morning
Sunny in the afternoon
C
Not ideal at all. Too warm, I prefer freezing temps. Would like it to snow or at least to have some snow on the ground.
But at least I'll get some sun.
Appalling Xmas Day on the cards ... 34c/26c dp's.
very 'tropical' !
2021 it rained all day ( monsoonal ) and 26c max.... we all sat under the verandah complaing that it was too cold and wet to play backyard cricket or jump in the pool...

26C was the temperature in early October when I took my last swim of the season, but the sun was much lower... and water probably much cooler (17-18C) than down in Darwin.
S and Z are simply informal grades, that I have noticed being used in other polls:
S is better than A, meaning that the Christmas weather is spot-on ideal for you.
Z is worse than F, meaning that the Christmas weather is so bad that it is beyond comprehension.

I hope this helps.
Thank you. After thinking about it, I can see "S" as satisfactory, and I've heard of "Z" as the worst possible grade. I just never realized it was used officially.
Question: Are we to grade the weather, where we are, or where our main residence is located?
