I don't see the need for 90s at the beach. Mid to upper 80s should be sufficient, especially considering the strength of the sun and sand that can burn the skin off your feet.

90's or 100's are just fine if people like them. Some people really like it and are suited for it - just ask those toasted old men living in the Sonoran Desert . As for beach weather, I'd imagine 80's or high 80's would be fine for most people, but water temperatures are more important. Often when the water temperature goes up to warm levels the air temperature is above 90F, but it's not necessary per se to have 90F+ air temperature with warm water.

I seriously don't mind if I live in a place where the temperature doesn't rise above 90°F any day of the year!

Agreed. Probably the most comfortable beach experience I've ever had was in Cairns during winter: 85 F temp, 75 F water. I might have prefered an air temp around 80 F. Water had just the slightest hint of coolness, just enough to be refreshing in the hot (by my standards) and sunny weather. Yet it was never cool enough to make me shiver, unlike the 65 F air, 55 F water temps we get here.

Then again, I would say 95 F air / 60 F water here one day was equally enjoyable.

2000
2004
2007
2008
2009
2010

According to this only 50 of the past 100 years have reached 90F somewhere in the United Kingdom:
hottest_days

There have even been two years in that time where nowhere in the country even got above 82, and only nine in the past 100 years have seen above 95.

Since I was born, 1993 failed to reach 90°F at Montsouris weather station with 88.9°F. 2012 better get far above this threshold.
In the last century 32 years managed to get past 95°F.

Fair to assume 2006 reached 90F in Leeds. Shame Leeds Weather Centre is defunct.

Before Leeds weather centre closed I believe it only reached 90F in 1990.

From a weather enthusiasts point of view, it would be interesting to break 90F this summer, but that's very unlikely.

From a comfort point of view though, I don't care if it never reaches 90F again.

We had 140 days that reached 90 last year so I'm going to say I prefer zero days in the 90s. Or the 80s.

I'm pretty sure Paris reaches 90°F more often than Nice on a given year.
Amidst our sea of summer days almost exclusively in the 25-29°C range (79-84°F), I would say we exceed 30°C/86°F about half a dozen times a year, including about twice above 32.2°C/90°F.

Let's count :

2011
Above 30°C/86°F : 5 days
inc. Above 32.2°C/90°F : 2 days

2010
Above 30°C/86°F : 6 days
inc. Above 32.2°C/90°F : 1 days
all in July (a "very hot" month)
none in August, not even 30°C (how pathetic)

2009
Above 30°C/86°F : 9 days
inc. Above 32.2°C/90°F : 4 days

etc.

And in 2003, our hottest summer ever :

Above 30°C/86°F : 31 (+29 days = 60 days above 29°C)
inc. Above 32.2°C/90°F : 11

In my ideal climate I would say - number of days above 90°F :

Jan : 2 (avg. high 27°C)
Feb : 3 (avg. high also 27°C but more prone to a warmth peak)
Mar : 4 (avg. high 28)
Apr : 8 (avg. high 29)
May : 11 (avg. high 30)
Jun : 13 (avg. high 31)
Jul : 16 (avg. high 32)
Aug : 15 (avg. high 32)
Sep : 6 (avg high. 30, but a wet and stable month)
Oct : 9 (avg. high 31)
Nov : 4 (avg. high 28)
Dec : 0.5 (avg high. 26)

Total : 91.5 (if I'm not mistaken) - or about 1 day out of 4.

Conversely : number of days with a high below 24°C/75°F in my dream climate (off topic but...whatever) :

Jan : 3
Feb : 1
Dec : 7
All the other months : 0
Total : 11 or about one day out of 33.

And : number of days with a high below 20°C/68°F : NONE, EVER
