I know for the millions who live in the Southwestern Desert cities September is eagerly awaited as normally this is when cities like Phoenix, Las Vegas, Palm Springs, Yuma, Tucson…etc fall below 100 F/37 C. According to the WC, AccuWeather, and even NOAA, the forecast shows no more 100 F days at least for 8 days.

Here is todays expected highs - Phoenix will just make 90 F, Yuma and Palm Springs will not make it higher than even 95 F today.

Fall appears to be on tap in the deserts....

That 98°F forecast for Medford is surprising. It's at 42°N. Summer partially returns tomorrow. High of 81°F.

Seems to be quite early in the season for places like Phoenix to consistently drop below 100F.

Overall it looks very pleasant throughout most of the US.

According to NOAA 1981-2010 averages, Phoenix max temp drops below 100F on Sept 18th, and drops below 90F on October 14th. So, average is usually around one more week of 100F, and another month of 90F plus temps.

Yes, I saw that too - it might be a WC error. I'll have to check their NWS site on Wed to see what the high was today. Sounds about 10 F off.

Some variation is normal in places like that, so if sub-100F days pop up before September 18 it shouldn't be a surprise. However, temperatures are usually rather stable in that region. Also, staying below 100F for 8 consecutive days isn't exactly normal.

It looks like it's still pretty hot to me. Look at that humongous area of 80F+ temperatures this late into the season, and it's not as if it's a hot spike either - it's going to be rather typical for the next week or so. The only pleasant spots (for me) are the immediate West Coast, Montana, Colorado, and Minnesota.

I checked Medford, OR this morning...the high yesterday was only 86 F...so perhaps that forecast high the WC had for Medford was off by about 10 F. They likely made a digit mistake (they put in 98 F insted of 88 F)).
