i'm pretty sure Miami is not 11a. USDA 1990 used to be 10a, and the update being 10b...

frankly these U.S. Hardiness zones are kind of trivial. Miami's current record low is 27°F. wouldn't that make Miami, FL 9b? and in turn shifting all of the hardiness zones northward Orlando/Tampa being 9a etc.?

9a: 20°F to 25°F
9b: 25°F to 30°F
10a: 30°F to 35°F
10b: 35°F to 40°F
11a: 40°F to 45°F

seems people like to pretend Florida doesn't get as cold as it actually does...

i know what your going to say, the zones are based on minimum temperatures but with expected temperatures to be within a certain range for an average season... still its a bit of a gamble, you never know when the next record breaking cold blast is going to hit

my favorite zone is 10a, but a real 10a with a record low around 32°F.

The 1981-2010 average for extreme winter min is 40F, so it is 11a.

well USDA 2012 shows this:

so unless i'm color blind... i think Miami is well within 10b. with 11a beginning around Key Largo 60 miles south.

i mean sure if you want to pretend its 11a we can

Look up the annual extreme min if you don't believe me. I can't be bothered uploading a photo as proof. 40F seems like a bit of a grey area; it's both 10b and 11a. Using the more recent 1985-2014 period, it is 41F. I'm going to say 11a it is.

It's 11a by definition, you are correct.
