NYC is definitely my first choice, think Tokyo narrowly edges BA & Sydney for my 2nd choice for being a bit more seasonal despite the better sunshine and more comfortable summers in the latter two.

My ranking would be

1. NYC
2. Tokyo
3. BA
4. Sydney
5. Charleston
6. Shanghai
7. Durban
8. Christchurch
9. Rio

(these 2 are really bad)
10. HK
11. Vladivostok

Buenos Aires is the best by far due to having a long, warm to hot summer and a cool winter, as well as good precipitation and sun. Charleston is second. If all the highs were lowered by 2C, it would be very close to perfect.

Overall they're pretty good. Other than Vladivostok none of them are bad.

1. Buenos Aires
2. Charleston
3. Sydney
4. Tokyo
5. Durban
6. New York = Shanghai
8. Rio de Janeiro
9. Hong Kong
10. Christchurch
11. Vladivostok

NOTE: Long list

Christchurch, New Zealand: Winters are not cold enough, Summers are great, Too dry year round, Sunshine hours are okay = Grade A-

NY City, New York: Winters are nice, Summers are too hot in the afternoon, Winters are not snowy enough and too sunny = Grade B

Vladivostok, Russia: Winters are great, Summers are great, But the summers are too wet, and winters are way too dry, Sunshine hours are crooked. = Grade B

Tokyo, Japan: Winters not cold enough, Summers too hot and wet, Snowfall too low, Sun hours are crooked = Grade D+

Buenos Aires, Argentina: Summers are too hot and too wet, Winters are too warm, dry, and sunny = Grade D

Shanghai, China: Winters are not cold enough, Too hot in the summer, Way too wet in the summer, Too dry in the winter, Sunshine is a bit crooked = Grade D

Mascot, New South Wales: Winters are not cold enough, Too sunny in the winter = Grade D+

Charleston, South Carolina: Winters are not cold enough, Too hot and wet in the summer, Too sunny in the winter, Snowfall is WAY too low.

Durban, South Africa: Same with Rio de Janeiro = Grade D-

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: Too warm year round, Winters too dry and sunny, Summers too wet = Grade D-

Hong Kong: Too warm year round, Way too wet in the summer, Way too dry in the winter, Sunshine hours are okay for the cooler months. = Grade F+

Results: Most of those climates are quite crappy. But Christchurch is the best one, While Hong Kong is the worst one.

EDIT 1: Vladivostok scores an A-. But the dry winters and lack of snow fail to make it rise.

Sydney: Not letting the averages fool me, those summer heatwaves are BRUTAL. The winters are nice. C

Buenos Aires: Very similar to Sydney, very nice winter but slightly hotter summers. Fewer rainy days but higher relative humidity, less extreme heatwaves. C+

Rio de Janeiro: Hot and humid for most of the year, heavenly winter. Very hot temperatures possible at any time of year. C+

Vladivostok: Awful. Decent temperatures coincide with lots of rain and very high humidity. Winter resembles an inland position. D

Durban: Very nice subtropical east coast climate. Great temperatures year round, Maybe a little wet in summer. Surprisingly low cyclone risk. A+

New York: Defined but balanced seasonal variation. Fairly cold winters with transient snow cover, hot and humid but not very extreme summers. Heatwaves and cold waves can be very intense but are still nothing compared to inland locations. B+

Charleston: Typical coastal south summers, hot and unpleasantly humid with lots of thunderstorms. Mild winter with a relatively large diurnal variation. Vunerable to hurricanes between August and October. B-

Shanghai: Standard Cfa with a more dramatic precipitation variation, nice winters if a bit cool considering the low 30s latitude. B

Tokyo: Also a very standard Cfa but wetter in summer and autumn, Abundance of natural disasters (earthquakes, tsunamis, typhoons). B-

Hong Kong: Just-barely-not-tropical monsoon climate. VERY wet summers and short, dry winters. Saved from truly extreme summer heatwaves by the very wet conditions. C+

Christchurch: Mild, stable, safe, a bit boring for some. Strangely high diurnal variation for a non-transitional Cfb. Very London-like. A-

Vladivostok has good temperatures but a terrible rainfall pattern. I choose it anyways. Worst is Hong Kong for the oppressive summers.

Vladivostok and New York (both are not ideal though: Vladi should have NY's precip or NY should have Vladi's temp)
