Attention Jim Cantore! Nobody is on the edge of their chair right now. But TWC and friends would have us believe otherwise considering they devote most of their main page articles, not to mention air time about a weather phenomena that leaves out 2/3's of the country. In fact, they seem to be just beside themselves that there hasn't been much of a season thus far so they can hype it even more, so I guess they have to pretend that there is something to sensationalize, like this recent headline:
WHAT'S BREWING IN THE GULF?
They are no doubt already booking airline tickets and packing bags so we can watch some goofy reporter on a beach with bent over palm trees in the background measure the surf as they brace themselves against the wind and breathlessly report about the damage! Like
OMG the sky is falling!!!
I guess that's why I get all my weather reports from SPC; I need practical advice about what to wear today, not entertainment. I wish they would just invent a "Hurricane Channel" so the rest of us can tune out the garbage and fans/chasers/locals can get better and specific coverage or even entertainment if the site of broken plate glass windows and downed power lines are their thing.
Edit to add: I'm not minimizing safety or the threat, I'm sure these reporters do a real service for some people that still have electricity during the event, but the lead up time to it is disturbing, several days of "anticipation" before the fact is ridiculous.
