My area usually october, though near the lake more like early november.

As for frost free october, BC coast, Vancouver, Victoria, and gulf islands.
Farthest north frost free October in Canada is Queen Charlotte Islands,
Sandspit at 54N average first frost November 14th.

yeah, but what is it? is there something like a low highland? or is just the fact that the area is so far from the sea that it features a more continental type of climate, which probably would also promote earlier frosts?

It coincides with an area of higher elevation:

Which might also explain why places like Jonkoping seem quite cold for that part of Sweden.

ah, yes, now i remember ;-) ... I find swedish high elevation spots to be quite interesting. Do you know if there's maybe also climatic data for the highest village in Sweden, which is situated, as far as I know, way further north than Götaland?

yep...
1961-1990 normals for tännäs (one of the most elevated populated villages in sweden, with swedens highest elevated church) (732 m.a.s.l)

january: -9,7C
feberuary: -8,4C
mars: -5,5C
april: -1,1C
may: 5,2C
june: 9,8C
july: 11,1C
august: 9,8C
september: 5,8 C
october: 1,4C
november: -5C
december: -7,8 C
annual: 0,5C

its around 25km from högvålen (swedens highest village) (830 m.a.s.l), but there isnt any climate data from that place. but you can probably extrapolate it by taking away 1 degree each month from the tännäs-data.

thanks... reminds me of some norwegian places in Nordland or Troms (at 300-500m for example), though precipitation for tännäs is certainly way lower... and summers in tännäs or högvålen are obviously really cool.
