--------------------------------------------------------------------- watches/warnings in effect for southern saskatchewan... Snowfall warning for: Kindersley - rosetown - biggar - wilkie - macklin the battlefords - unity - maidstone - st. Walburg prince albert - shellbrook - spiritwood - duck lake. 10 to 20 cm of snow possible sunday. --------------------------------------------------------------------- ==discussion== the first significant snowfall of the season is expected to impact portions of western and central saskatchewan this weekend. An intensifying storm system crossing southern british columbia today will spread an area of snow into parts of southern and central alberta today. Precipitation from this system is expected to spread into west central saskatchewan this evening likely beginning as rain or a mix of rain and wet snow. As the night progresses the precipitation will change to all snow over the warning area and continue through sunday. Current indications are that the heaviest snowfall amounts of 10 to 20 cm will fall across the battleford and prince albert regions by sunday night. Snowfall amounts are expected to be less in kindersley..perhaps 5 to 10 cm..with higher amounts of 10 to 20 cm through the macklin to biggar corridor. Increasing northerly winds sunday afternoon and sunday night will result in poor visibilities in snow and local blowing snow creating poor travelling conditions. Snow from this system is likely to spread east across central saskatchewan sunday night into early monday and snowfall warnings may be extended to regions further east including the melfort-nipawin area. For saskatoon..precipitation from this system is expected to begin as rain overnight and change to snow later sunday into sunday night with 5 cm possible by monday morning. There is still some uncertainty on the track and intensity of this system which will impact the location of the heaviest snowfall. As a result the warning area may be modified as the storm track becomes clearer. Residents are advised to monitor the progress of this storm system and listen for updated forecasts and warnings. Please refer to the latest public forecasts for further details. E
