The Jet Stream has been its in winter position for the whole of May, quite unusually, which has created quite drastic differences in temperature. Most of Northern Europe has been cut out most of the heat.
Berlin (Tegel) has had 7 days above 20C this May and had 7 in April. The May average high is 19C.
Prague has had 4 days above 20C in May, 5 in April.
Pronounced in the British Isles, Scandinavia and the Baltic, but you already know this, so no need to dwell on it further.
The trend seems to be changing later next week. GFS shows heat building up in Russia, so maybe it will hit me at least.
Yeah and with the northwestern/ northern airstream even a 15°C high is almost unachievable here right at the coast.
Forecast for the next days shows temperatures mostly in the 11-13°C range. On the other hand- i am willing to take these chilly days in May if in return July and August will be warm, sunny and thundry.
We got some snow here where I live in mid June 2000 at 1700m asl because of odd polar front passing over the Iberian peninsula.
That is pretty impressive for Spain!

What a surprise. Have they not had enough heat in recent years? Why can't this heat build up over Spain, France and Germany for once and surge into the UK and Scandinavia like 2006. They just had a ridiculous record breaking summer a few years ago in Russia, and plenty more well above average recently.

France, Germany and Spain have had hot weather in recent years, it's just that it doesn't seem to quite reach the UK, bar the odd day. When was the last official heatwave? Must be a few years.
The last couple of July's have obviously been well above average, but it seems that it's just been consistent warmth rather than actual hot days.
We're going to Crete in June, then I'll be going to DC in August, and we'll probably go away in October, so I'll definitely be seeing some heat!
Surely it's par the course, the UK being an island and France/Germany being on a continent. Most heatwaves in Europe will miss the UK.
2006 was exceptional so we can't expect that anytime soon. Reached 33c in 2013 which is higher than normal.
Exactly. It is what it is. We will always lag behind most of Europe when it comes to heatwave's. Always have done and always will do.
Recent summer's here have actually been quite nice, bar some poor August weather of course, but then why would anybody expect us to get 3 months of hot, sunny summer weather? It's a bit far fetched really.
Yeaahhh thunderstorms again within next days! I am bored with the permanent sun. It is quite dry till now for May in Ioannina. :/
