I experienced 405 hours in Helsinki in July 2006 and it was terrible. The precipitation was 4 mm during the whole month and everything just... died. That was a bit too much of sun and drought.

And look at the temps, they weren't even extreme: Synop report summary

i'd bet even northern germany beats the living hell out of London when it comes to summer heat. london is only is warm compared to scandinavia, northern england, ireland, northern ireland and scotland. and that's saying something.
London's summers are comparable to Berlin in temperature and sunshine, and are warmer but slightly duller than Munich's.

June and July are slightly warmer in Munich. I'd argue that London and Munich are very similar, with Berlin warmer. They are all very close in temperature though. I expected Munich to be warmer than it is.

It's weird.. 150 miles south across the Alps and the summer temps go from 23/12 to 30/20!

Its all subjective regarding temperature and what qualifies as being warm or cool.

Munich is 500 m asl, that's why it's cool for its location.

Apparently, London gets 9 times more days below 20°C than above 32°C in July. It gets more days below 20°C than above 28°C. 80% of the highs would be between 20°C and 32°C.

Really? I think we get 1 day on average that is above 32C each year, so that would be 9 days which definitely cannot be right!

Number of days below 20C in the past few Julys. Apart from 2013 they were mostly poor summer months, with 2007 being one of the worst ever summer months here:

2013: 1
2012: 11 (was a very cool July, 2.3C below average)
2011: 9 (again another cool July more than 2C below average)
2010: 0 days (month was just over 1C above average)
2009: 2 (slightly below average month)
2008: 6
2007 4 (probably the worst summer month we have had)
2006 0
2005: 1
2004: 1
2003: 0

Actually, looking at this it is a lot more than I thought! Most of these days are 18 or 19C but I still did not realisehow many times it has happened in some of these years! Since 2007 we have had some pretty awful Julys, however, which could be a cause

The highs are slightly warmer, but the means are lower in all months. The difference between London and Berlin in July and August is only 0.3C.

London gets about 28 days per summer where the high is 21C or below (14 in June, 6 each in July/August) , but 90% of days are above 20C (so about 9 days below). London gets 28 days above 25C, 14 days above 27C, and 8 days above 29C, so I would guess there are around 10-11 days above 28C.

In an average year, highs in July and August don't go below 18 or above 33.
