Which climate is more suited for your needs:

Socorro, NM:

Goldsboro, NC:
Intellicast - Goldsboro Historic Weather Averages in North Carolina (27531)

I'd choose Socorro in a heartbeat. The humidity east of I 95 away from coast is just disgusting in the Carolina's. I'd love those crisp and dry nights, in spite of similar highs.

Goldsboro by a mile. Socorro is unbearably dry.

Spoiler
And as an added bonus, you can watch F-15s at the air force base there.

Socorro.

Socorro is the only place I've ever seen that set its record low in November. WTF?

Yeah, their F-22s were replaced by F-16s last year. Since NM has unpopulated desert you might be able to hear sonic booms (this video is from Red Flag in Nevada)

The difference I would think is that being in the west, the one in New Mexico will be more likely to provide those winter temps to you. The one in NC not so much. In NC you will be above it, or below it, and the average is just the difference between the back and forth swings all winter. In fact, don't count on getting the average temps lol. Count on the luck of the draw depending on if you prefer cold or warm.

I'd rather live in NC but would prefer the climate of Socorro.
