Which climate would you say feels more "wintery"? Most days in winter in both places have warm days and cool nights with lotsa sun but both have also seen snow before.

A) Palm Springs

Palm Springs, California - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

B) Tampa

Tampa, Florida - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Palm Springs... Tampa has warmer winter nights plus the lower latitude of Tampa would mean stronger sun.

I think a better comparison would be Palm Springs, Ca with Jacksonville, Florida. Jax averages slightly cooler temps in winter, but it lacks the mountains Palm Springs has. Tampa is just too warm, IMO.

Besides low temps Palm springs and Tampa are nearly the same (day temps) 72-70-73 in Tampa from dec to feb and 69-71-74 in Palm springs

Neither is wintery. They look like summer in New Zealand.

That's exactly how I felt about the thread asking of London or Hobart was more "summery" and it's a completely valid answer.

I voted for Palm Springs just because of the colder nights and visibility and accessibility of the snow in the nearby mountains though.

Palm Springs - at least it doesn't have much humidity; hot winters are awful, but hot and humid winters are distinctly worse. Come to think of it humidity at any temperature above 40F makes winter worse.
