How similar are Minneapolis, MN and Chicago, IL in terms of climate? Do they have nearly the same weather patterns? Would a person from one city notice much of a difference in the other after being there for a while? Thank you.
So summer highs are similar, shoulder seasons noticeably cooler in the Twin Cities, and obviously their winters are significantly cooler. Even if I don't use MDW which has a very strong UHI and 9 miles from the lake which acts as insulation, so say I use say Aurora 25 miles into the west suburbs, they are still much colder in the winter, but the summer minimums are a lot closer.
I have seen from so many climate maps that Minneapolis is on the border between Dfa and Dfb while Chicago is pure Dfa. Minneapolis being on the climate border between Dfa and Dfb explains its colder winters than Chicago. Though in the future, with climate change, Minneapolis might become pure Dfa and the Dfa-Dfb boundary will go into northern Minnesota.
I noticed that Chicago tends to have more mild temperature swings, especially in winter. Like Chicago can be in the 60s in December while Minneapolis will be in the 30s.
