I often hear it described as being "semi-arid" but I disagree because it gets ample precipitation days throughout the year and summers can be quite wet. The evapotranspiration rate is also low and the vegetarian does not look very xeric for the most part.

There really isn't a true dry season in Great Falls, the only reason you'd call it semi-arid is because it receives less than 20 inches of precipitation a year. I think it's more of a drier humid continental climate. It has more in common with New York City than with Reno or Yakima, fundamentally speaking.

If the PET is greater than the precip, then it's definitely semi-arid.

I'd consider it a dry continental climate, personally.

I would classify Great Falls as semi-arid, but on the wetter side of things.
