Dear all, would like to ask how you guys find an actual city (or some actual cities) that come closest to your dream climate?

I mean, apart from base it on experience, is there some analytical method that can draw the conclusion by finding the closest match from a database (e.g. a database extracting climate figures per city from wikipedia would be quite good)?

*********************************
For example, my dream climate is:
daily mean temperature for every month is 25c
daily high temperature for every month is 28c
daily low temperature for every month is 22c
Average rainfall mm (inches) for every month is 25.0 (0.984)
Average relative humidity (%) for every month is 80%
Mean monthly sunshine hours is 200 hours or above for every month
*********************************

So how can i find some cities which come closest to above, by a mathematical method from a database?

There seems to be some sort of wikipedia climate database on web, for example:
Wikipedia's Climate Data on an Interactive Map

And I wonder how you guys find out the closest city, for example:

http://www.city-data.com/forum/weather/1400322-let-us-find-your-dream-climate-14.html
http://www.city-data.com/forum/weather/1983114-dream-climate-temperature-map-tracker.html

Any idea?

maybe someone knows of one but i don't of any program or computer model that will seek locations out for you.

though you can achieve a lot from just analytical thinking. finding the exact precipitation pattern you want would be difficult but as far as temperatures its pretty straight forward. what you are looking for is tropical climate that borders subtropical highland climate, in Central/South America, Africa, Asia, Australia. most places below 25° latitude and 1,000+ ft. elevation, assuming sufficient precipitation. add 150 ft. per drop in degree latitude.

locations that come to mind right off the bat:

San Jose, Costa Rica:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Jo...a_Rica#Climate

Tegucigalpa, Honduras:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tegucigalpa#Climate

Brasilia, Brazil:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bras%C3%ADlia#Climate

not perfect, but they come close, and surely small towns nearby would be very close approximations of what you are looking for as far as temperatures go.

also some tropical islands south of the equator, typically for not being as hot as those north of the equator at equivalent latitude.

Noumea, New Caledonia:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noum%C3%A9a#Climate

Suva, Fiji:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suva#Climate

Port Vila, Vanuatu:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_Vila#Climate

Adamstown, Pitcairn Islands
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adamst...slands#Climate

again, precipitation would be the most difficult requirement to nail down. you'd have better luck with high elevation tropical climates in this regard, most tropical islands have way more precipitation than you are looking for.

i took special interest in your post because my perfect climate would be very similar to the requirements you are looking for, but with some variation in both temperatures and precipitation throughout the year, with also more precipitation (say 40 inches per year, 80 rain days with 2800 hours of sunshine). i like to see a small seasonal change in temperatures and precipitation, just enough to feel slightly different and help get rid of the sensation of monotony that most tropical climates give me.

Hey, that's a pretty cool map.

Here's the link since it doesn't work in the OP:

how are those anything like what he asked for? (except Recife) they are just tropical climates with high precipitation. anybody can mention them. hell i could close my eyes, point to a random spot under 20° latitude and get a location whose climate is a better fit for his criteria than the ones you mentioned. (except Recife)

my impression was that he was looking for a climate with temperatures in the low 80's F not high 80's F. his requirement of 1 inch per month is sort of a catch 22 because any location with low precipitation like that is going to be hotter and more variable than he is looking for.

They're all in the low to mid 80's for high through out the year with moderate rainfalls. Otherwise, his best bet would be Durban, South Africa. It averages 80's for high with low of low 70's for most of the year with light rainfall.

no, most of them spend most of their time in the upper 80's, nothing unique or hard to find in the tropics.

and i'd hardly call Durban's 40 inches and 130 rainy days as "light rainfall". not saying its easy though, the closest i've found so far in regards to precipitation is Aruba, and its still not quite meeting the requirements, and the temperatures are too hot as well.

The Galapagos Islands, though it's a bit too wet.

Any rain shadow areas in Hawaiian Islands sounds great for you.
Consider the constant trade winds blowing off the coast, I would also recommend even Honolulu though it could be a bit drier and warmer than ideal.

A station near Waikui in Hawaii the main island.

awesome find tenkier7!

@tommyFL and yea the Galapagos Islands are the closest yet, and you know what i was thinking of those islands as well but i had it stuck in my mind that they were too dry to fit his description but after looking at some climate data now, turns out they are a great fit.
