What is the heaviest snowfall rate you have ever experienced? Last night in Buffalo, 28 inches fell in a little over 6 hours. Snowfall rates averaged 4.5 inches an hour, but they certainly pushed over 5 at times

Here's Champion, NY (TugHill section) yesterday from lake Ontario snow effect. North of Syracuse.

As far as me.... Nobody actually keeps track of that unless you have records of hourly OBS from your backyard with each snow event. But I remember and have video of a couple of times for the heavy events.

I experienced 3-5" snow rates a few times and it was incredible. (Nor'Easters) Was only for an hour or so though. Sometimes in spurts. But It's rare to get a constant snowband to sit over the area like that with those rates.

Lake Effect is another thing when winds are steady at a certain direction and just feeding instability from the lake hour after hour.
