My wife and I are moving from Arizona to Virginia over the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. We are packing up a uhaul and towing our car. I'm gonna be doing the most driving so I'm trying to avoid as many mountains if possible and we are traveling with three cats and a dog. Looking for help with routes and hotel stops along the way. PLEASE HELP!
Going east you will hit mountains on the 40 or the 10. The 40 will put you closer to Virginia, but you will have to go through Flagstaff and the mountains around NC, Tennessee and WV. The 10 is less mountainous but it takes you further south.

Take route 95 up into Utah and then drive down route 12 and back, then take route 24N to near salt lake and then cut across and take a orthern route. Go through the medicine bow national forest in southern Wyoming, and then some down into Colorado through the Rockies and then speed across I-80 or I-70.
I've travelled all over the county by car and driven cross country many times and Utah 95 is my favorite drive with route 12 not far behind. The rest is spectacular as well.
Stop to do some hiking if you have time. Bryce, Arches, dinosaur national monument, Rocky Mountain national park etc.
Stay off huge interstates when you can out west--more scenery, more pleasant driving, more chance of wildlife. Take the interstates across once you get out of western Kansas or Nebraska.
