What's the difference between merging and being pulled in? Still sounds like it would be getting scooped up by the trough. Maybe I'm overthinking it.
Merging and being pushed with it as the trough moves East the hurricane would just move Northeast along it versus being captured and pulled in Westward. That it tough to happen.
But I think the trough wont be an issue now. I think it leaves before Irma comes. Don't know yet

Yeah, however merging in the case of Irma would mean the storm phases with the troughs energy. It starts losing its characteristics of a hurricane and getting more strung out. That's how I always understood hurricanes merging with troughs. If the trough is slower and digs far enough south Irma could possibly get caught in the backside of the trough. however, Its unlikely for two reasons, one models already show the trough as very deep, which is already unusual as its only September. Two, the timing is too fast as the trough exits the east coast before Irma is far enough north.
When I said pulled in I though that the trough would actually be powerful enough to drag Irma westward towards it, which is unlikely as it would have to be much further south and much more powerful. What the trough will do however is push back against the Atlantic high, how much is the question...

I guess it would be more likely to go out to sea with the high out of the way. Even if that's the case, it might still have severe impacts from Florida to North Carolina before darting away from the coast. Always interesting to see how interconnected everything is.
I want it to make landfall here but it'll probably hit NC.
Are you nuts? Manahattan and a hurricane this size would not end well... if it hits anywhere for the sake of this country let it be NC or SC... for the sake of everybody let it go to the fishes...
Im a hurricane enthusiast and as much as i would also love to experience a hurricane of this magnitude... id rather not, lets keep my selfish desires last and peoples lives first. Even if it hits no one it will be cool to watch this storm as it evolves.
Why am I the only one voting for Bahamas? Seems like most models agree with this...
It has to go thru Bahamas to get to US.
"Next stop, Wilmington?"
