Just read the thread on trees struck by lightning and it jogged my memory of these events.
I'm an avid fisherman, thus spend a lot of time out doors. In Co. the weather can sneak up on you.
I've experienced two precursors that told me to take safe cover. Usually in a vehicle.
The first was in a boat casting with six # hi-vis monofiliment and a 1/4oz. lure.
The mt. Lake got real calm with very small rain drops. My casts resulted in the line arcing up into the air and would not come down on the retrieve due to the static. Yowza! Time to get off the water and out of the aluminum boat.
Second event was a very remote lake. I had rain gear but not a hood, so I stuck a Walmart bag over my head and put my cap back on. While fishing out on a mud flat point the bag started buzzing. Time to leave. The storm let loose and I watched a bald eagle get slammed to the earth by a down draft. I now carry a plastic bag with me and wear it if the clouds roll in.
