If it's going to be too hot, then you might as well have some rain to break things up once in a while. New Orleans gets some wicked thunderstorms, and we got hail multiple times while we lived there!
You can also grow pretty much any kind of tender tropical in New Orleans with its heat and humidity We lived there for a couple of years and most plants do amazing in that climate. House plants turn into giants after being outside in the New Orleans weather!
I also like New Orleans because of all the lush greenery, lakes/streams around the area. Las Vegas is just too dry with under 5" of rain a year, and just too unrelentingly sunny.
As someone acclimated to Las Vegas style weather, and has frequented New Orleans in the summer, I will say that desert summers are a lot more pleasant for me. Both cool down significantly at sunset, New Orleans with a clockwork thunderstorm at 5 pm, Las Vegas with the sun just... going away.
I find that in regards to extreme heat management, and preventing heat stroke, Las Vegas is easier to manage. It's safe for a place like Vegas to double or even triple average water consumption to avoid dehydration. Yet no one takes this in consideration, so of course a Vegas summer feels miserable, you're practically on the verge of passing out. New Orleans probably would require more water than a colder climate to prevent dehydration, but given there's more water in the air, probably not as much as Vegas.
As a sweaty individual also, New Orleans humidity is extra unpleasant. It's like being in a shower constantly.
New Orleans would be the dream city but it's climate and I just don't get along. Sad really.

I don't know, I find 110 degree dry heat to be just as bad as 90 degree humid heat. The only way to make the dry heat favorable is to take advantage of it by wearing wet clothes, frequently misting yourself, etc. But this attracts stares and weird looks. I did this at my workplace during an unusual summer heat wave and everyone stared at me like I was insane. (Our workplace had a shower). Yet, I was the only one comfortable.
Las Vegas is far more comfortable most of the year. New Orleans can get nasty arctic intrustions in the winter but also muggy warm days. Las Vegas has cold winter nights but moderated sunny days.
In summer, the humidity and thunderstorms ruin many a day in New Orleans. It's always pool weather in Vegas in summer!
Spring and fall are a toss up. I'd have to say spring is just very nice in New Orleans, fall is more stable in Las Vegas.

Was this in the Southwest? No one gives weird looks for this around these parts. Here in the desert people actually understand you gotta do what you gotta do...
Also in the shade, the dry heat is much better than "wet heat". It can drop 30 degrees from a sunny vs. shady area, assuming the area had been shaded for quite some time.
Give it to NOLA for the greenery and rain. I'd hate their weather but if I survived Miami for 18 years I could do New Orleans. I can't handle the desert, I'm not made for that. The winter here is dry enough. My hands might be constantly bleeding down in Vegas.
