That's pretty amazing... It looks like they are getting our intense wet winter weather in California that we normally get in the PNW. Here in Vancouver, we've had a few powerful rain/windstorms over the years that have knocked down trees and powerlines and caused some flooding. I always thought tornadoes on the California coast are fairly rare due to more stable airmasses in general. Hopefully the damage wasn't too severe.
Tornadoes on the California coast are rare but Pineapple Express storms spawn them from time to time in central and southern California.
I don't think these were the worst storms so much as that California and the SW saw the lowest barometric readings on record this year. A similar event took place in 2005.
Living on the pacific coast almost guarantees a series of damaging Pineapple Express storms every few years.
