To answer your poll, I have a sapphire-diamond combination. My birthstone is diamond, the hubby's is sapphire...he thought of the idea and it's not a big size stone ring...I didn't want him spending too much money when there were other things we needed to buy before the wedding.
For myself, I would like an antique platinum setting diamond ring like my mother has. It's actually Tiffany ring. I love the filigree work, the engraving and the stone being low set so as not to catch on anything. And the diamond should be at least a carat, but not much more. It should be a top quality diamond though.
I saw a young woman with the most amazing diamond ring on while standing in line at the bank. From a distance, you could tell the quality of the stone as it sparkled and was so white.
A big top quality diamond would be too bling and garish for me. And just not worth spending the big bucks on. Large quality diamonds are not a good investment imo. Diamonds are actually quite common. And probably for the first decades that you own the ring, you will never be able to sell it for what you paid for it. The jewelry pieces that appreciate in value are the antique pieces because they were bought so long ago, their settings are so much more detailed and higher in quality and then factor in inflation.
I didn't vote in your poll. My answer would be for a medium size highest quality stone in an antique platinum setting.
I HAD a regular diamond which was my engagement ring, and a wrap, which was sort of the wedding rind that had sapphires and diamonds, and I used to wear a diamond anniversary band with them.
I took them off on July 21.
Will I wear another? Not from him...
If I wear another, what will it be, what do I prefer..... I don't know.
And I didn't watch that movie, and I don't want to. I have heard sad things about it.
Depends on the woman but for me a simple good quality diamond with accent diamonds on the wedding band. White gold. My sisters diamond is ginormous and I'd be terrified of hurting myself with it.
This might have been posted before, but the movie Blood Diamond has got me wondering about diamond wedding rings and the whole industry/monopoly...
or are you out shopping? Enquiring minds would like to know
