Anyone from NY/NJ/CT living in Jupiter, and loving it? (Miami: real estate, rentals)

I am once again on a quest to move south. I was told by many different people to check out Jupiter. Gorgeous, great schools, safe, lots to do. I would love some feedback from people who moved from the NYC area. Thanks!

I moved me and my family from Philly to WPB and I wish I never did.
We tried hard to get more used to but is not working and we are moving back in 4 months.
I suggest you to sign for a short lease and wait to move you stuff. Moving a 3bd plus 2 cars cost me almost 10k. and now I have to move everything again.
Also I will wait next winter to move because is the only good season to enjoy here. Everybody tolm about the summer and now I'm convinced...IT"S BRUTAL!!!
You may think you'll save money because the low rent rates but you'll end up spending more here.
Nobody is walking, so you have to drive everywere-more gas
Car insurance increase 40%-worst drivers in the nation!!!
Healtinsurance cost almost twice here
A/C is running 10 month per year-NO SEASONS basically, always hot and humid
Also VERY IMPORTANT make sure you'll move in a place fa away from the tri-rail or the main rail road. You'll find few forum about that major problem of south florida.

Thank you ilovecoffee. I am looking into going to Jupiter. I will look for that main rail road problem there. Never heard of it. My wife has a slow thyroid, and I don't mind the heat. I heard its not as bad by the water, and this year in Florida was especially bad, actually in the whole south, the Carolinas included. I drive everywhere now - actually down there things are closer than where I am now. But I will get quotes for the health and car insurance.

Hat Car insurance is expensive here in Palm Beach but its still cheaper for us than NJ...we live in boca and property taxes are less here as well...everything else is no different than NYC or NJ..We arent in Jupiter but our children competitive swim so we always see and talk with the same families during meets and everyone we talk to are very happy in Jupiter...

Thank you Swimmom32: Your posts are always very informative, and positive for a change! Do the people in Jupiter seem really high-end? I heard that area is wonderful, and is surrounded by multi-million dollar properties. Are we going to feel like poor people if we are looking in the $400,000 range?

By No means will u feel poor..LOL If it wasnt for my dh's commute we would have looked in Jupiter...It is beautiful and with your budget you will be just fine...We live in Boca and are surrounded by alot of money we arent wealthy like these people but we found our place and fit right in...
and Thank you I am a very positive person after being married to my wonderful hubby for 22 years..lol it kind of rubs off on you...but its what you make out of it...You always need to know the facts before moving but people confuse fact with opinion and not everyone is going to have the same one....Relocating is difficult in any which way because you just never know, but we always took risks in life and panned out very well for us!!

I wish I could give you more info on Jupiter im sure someone who lives there will chime in...good luck and keep us posted

Thanks Swimmom32: Know what you mean by wonderful spouse. We are travelers, and have moved around a bit and love trying new things. Our kids are pretty flexible too, and not high school age yet, so I think they'll be fine. Give them great schools and activities to be involved in (my son loves and is pretty good at basketball) and they will be good to go. I will keep you posted! Have a good day!

UGH, I have to say moving to Florida and complaining about the heat is like moving to Antarctica and complaining about how cold it is. Our summers are longer and consistently hot, but it usually doesn't get hotter than the low 90's and if you live close to the water you get a nice breeze. Sure there's days where I'd like it to cool down, and those are the days I go take a dip in the pool or ocean. Days like yesterday though where I was able to take the boat out while most of the country was freezing make up for it.

I'm not a car insurance expert, but I believe the further North in PBC, the lower your car insurance is. Mine dropped 25% when I moved from Boynton to Palm Beach Gardens, and is less than when I lived in Wisconsin.

You shouldn't have any issues with a train in Jupiter. In downtown West Palm you get two tracks right through the middle of town, but even when I lived there it wasn't much of an issue.

While Jupiter is a little higher priced in terms of real estate than some areas to the West, 400k will get you a very nice home in a nice neighborhood. For example in Egret Landing you can get roughly a 2500 sqft home and the community offers many things to do for children (basketball, soccer, tennis, pool) Rentals in the nicer communities are available as well. Yes, there are neighborhoods with multi-million dollar homes, but you definitely won't feel poor there.

The summers in Philly are just as worse when it comes to humidity with no breeze.

AC does not need to run 10 months out of the year here, but in Philly you will need heat 7 months of the year, AC 3 months out of the year and if your lucky no heat or ac for 2 months. If your using heating oil or natural gas, be prepared for high bills in the next year.

And driving on the Schuylkill Expressway aka Highway to Hell is way worse than anything here, with exception maybe Miami. Parking is a real PITA in Philly.

If your sole reason for leaving here is based on the weather, then I think you did not do your homework too well prior to moving here.
