Every time I go to Florida (Coral Springs) I love the weather and feel good mentally. I have issues that I deal with and they are compounded by the dark times of the year. I am curious if anyone moved there specifically for their mental health and did it help them. A lot of people say it is great to visit but not to live or they miss the seasons.

Thank you

I moved here and miss the seasons. But I did not move here for the weather initially.

Do you find that your moods are better due to the sunshine or does it make no difference to you where you are?

Thank you.

Well it still gets dark here earlier during the winter but it's nowhere like the kind of gloom you get up north for a good 6 months or more of the year. For those with SAD, states like FL and AZ are perfect because the warmer temps and sunshine allow you to actually live a full 12 months during the year. Don't listen to the haters. FL is a great place to live, especially for those with SAD. Typically people with SAD do not miss seasons, they would rather see sunshine and not be depressed by dreary weather. Do what is best for you.

Many people do however make sure you have the financial health to do this. Do not move here without a job that can support you or at the very least, substantial savings.

Yes you were given two very good answers. I now live here full time, almost 2 years. I feel much healthier here. I didn’t move here for the weather though. That was just an added bonus. I was always a summer person and dreaded winter every year.

I went up north for the holidays and I couldn’t wait to return, confirming my decision to move here rather than stay in the pocono mountains (Which is just gorgeous in the summer but wayyy too short).

I have traveled up north in the summer so far for extended time since I’m retired. But I really managed quite nicely here when it was hot with everything bring super air conditioner. We only had window units in the summer up north. Anyway my preference is Florida summers over northern winters any time.

Of course many would disagree and that is perfectly ok. We are all unique. And no where is perfect.

Good luck in your decision but like advised GET A JOB FIRST!!

Just wanted to share my opinion.

One of the main reasons I moved to south FL was the beach and the weather, though my perception of the weather was a little off. I don't recall exactly how long it took, but I began to miss the seasons. I began to really dislike the constant heat and humidity with no pretty leaves in the fall and basically no opportunities to wear anything but a t-shirt. I lasted about 10 years before moving again.

If you want a lot of sun, there are much better places if this is your primary concern. There are easily a dozen states out west that have many, many more sunny days than Florida with less humidity, less rain, and better seasons. Having said that, FL is still a nice place, just not the place for me when it comes to the weather.

Whitmeyer, That’s so good to know. Which are the dozen states that have more sunny days less humidity and rain, and seasons. I may consider one of them in the future. For now Florida is good for me but I know I will never move back north. I’d like to know the other states you speak of.

Thanks.
