Saw houses in both communities that we liked. Obviously Hastings is closer to the city, but the house in Chappaqua was larger and had more land. We feel that we would "fit" in both communities. That said, can anyone give a reason why Chappaqua would be a better choice than Hastings?

Thanks in advance.

The schools are better in Chappaqua, but unless you are bipolar, I find it odd that you feel that you will fit into Hastings just as well as Chappaqua. The two areas could not be more different. Hastings is very laid back, more artsy and urban. Chappaqua is much more competitive (though not as much as a place like Scarsdale), rural, more disconnected from the city and much less down to earth.

At the end of the day, you'll need to decide what's most important to you. I like both areas for completely different reasons, but if you are really torn, perhaps look into a place like Irvington - it's sort of a compromise between the two.

"Bipolar" might be a stretch, but since we don't have a firm grasp on the actually communities in these towns, I am constrained to ask the question. But I appreciate the response and more information on both communitiewould be appreciated. Thanks.

I was only being sarcastic, but if you search the archives you'll find a ton on both. Both very different, you will find. Good luck.

I have heard more consistently good things about the schools in Chappaqua than Hastings. My son went to Hastings through 7th grade. The schools were good but I have since heard a few negative comments on these boards.

We also found Hastings a bit cliquey.

One positive is that Hastings is very walkable. Also the trip to the city is at least 20 minutes shorter. You can get to the train station from anywhere in 5 minutes.
