I work at CCNY and I am thinking to move in one of the Westchester river towns (Hastings, Dobbs Ferry , Irvington). I am planning to take Metro North to Marble Hill station and then the number 1 subway to 137 St - City College.
Can someone share some thoughts about it? A friend told me that she does not feel safe in Marble Hill station. Is this true?
The MNRR station is somewhat isolated, and during off-hours can be desolate by the river, such that I might not feel the most secure waiting on a platform at odd hours. You don't have the same feeling as Spuyten Duyvil or Riverdale at Marble Hill, but it's not as disconcerting as some other stations on the Hudson Line in the Bronx. During a regular commute, I would not worry about safety, since there are many commuters who disembark at Marble Hill to transition to the subway. Just be prepared to walk stairs, as there are a lot of them to get up to the subway from Marble Hill's location on the river.

I sometimes would be there around 8pm so that's why I am a little worried.
I knew about the stairs.
8pm might not be too bad at the station. You can always take the subway downtown and then catch the train from Grand Central as well, just buy a ticket from Grand Central to Marble Hill if your ticket is a monthly from Marble Hill. You save a good deal, however, using Marble Hill to the subway, so if it's only on occasion that you would be later in the evening, it may make sense to go to GCT.
