Due to some health issues, I haven't been able to do any kind of fitness for more than a year now. Not too sure if I can still do it, but got a green light from the physician to give a try. So looking into the fitness centers on Central Ave.
There are a few, from Blink Fitness in White Plains Galleria to Planet Fitness in Scarsdale (near ShopRite). Snap Fitness and one more close to it are other I noticed. Not too sure if there are any more on Central Ave.
I visited Planet Fitness the other day. It is very small and although wasn't crowded when I was there, I am suspicious, it must be getting really crowded. The ventilation didn't seem doing good job. The male shower room was rather tiny, but its the cheapest at $99/year.
Snap Fitness was nicer, but expensive, $35/month (yearly contract).
Didn't look at the other two I mentioned.
Can anyone give me some idea of the other two (or any other on Central Ave), if they have used it? I don't need a trainer. I am going to get the exercises from PT. I don't want to invest in any equipments at this moment.
Planet Fitness is fine. I used to use them when I lived in that area. I never had a problem finding equipment I wanted to use. It's low frills, yes, but I liked that. And the upfront investment is so low ($30? maybe less?), if you decide after a month or so that you want to go to a more fancy place, you won't feel like you wasted a big initiation fee.
I wonder about Planet Fitness' business model. How do they do so well with such modest rates? It amazes me how people are so worked up about paying $30 per month vs. $100 per month if you are actually going to the gym a few times a week. Its the cost of one dinner.
You get what you pay for. Hang out at the gym's on central avenue and its only a matter of time before someone breaks into your locker or your car. Plus, you have to deal with Central Ave traffic...not to mention the likely clientele at these places.
Start off at the Scarsdale Planet Fitness for $10 a month. It's a great, easy way to see if you even want to use a gym anymore. Who knows, you might hate it, and most other places you're locked into an annual contract. They provide you with a list of when they're at their busiest, so avoid those times.
