We are in the process of gathering quotes to have our roof replaced. It is an older home, so we will need new plywood, shingles, and (potentially) gutters.
Does anyone have recent experience with a roofing contractor that they would recommend? Cost approximations would also be helpful.
I had my roof in Ossining done about 2.5 years ago. I've since moved to NC. I lived in Indian Village and had a '50s Cape Cod.
I used Perry Roofing in Pleasantville and was very happy with them. I used GAF Timberline HD 3 tab architectural shingles. About 10 guys showed up around 7 AM and were done by 2 PM. It was snowing a couple hours later. They cleaned up well. A few weeks later, I had a small leak by my wood burning stove chimney flashing and they came out right away and fixed it.
As I recall, my quote was for about $8,500 to remove two layers of shingles, and included replacing 2 sheets of plywood if needed. Additional plywood was $50 per sheet installed. I ended up only needing one on my detached garage. I paid a couple hundred extra (?) for the Grace ice and water shield, which I recommend you do as well.
I would absolutely use them again. They were middle of the pack on cost. I bought them all lunch too.
Make sure your roofer cleans up any debris falling inside your home from the roof work, and cover everything you don't want the debris falling into. My neighbors failed to ask their roofer to clean up inside and they complained to me months after their roof installation about the mess in their attic that they were still cleaning up!
