Can anyone recommend a great furniture store for both kids (not babies/toddlers) and adults preferably in lower Westchester, but upper is fine too?
We love Pottery Barn stuff, but I want to actually see the furniture before I buy it, and I'd prefer to stay away from veneers and such. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg on high-end designer stuff, but I do want decent quality that will wear well.
Thanks, but Ikea is less than what we were looking for. Plus, none of their beds for kids take actual mattresses, which is slightly maddening. I'm fine spending $1500+ for a decent set - I just didn't want to go much higher than that.
I know you want to look at the furniture first (I know exactly what you mean...) but I just wanted to vouch for Land of Nod for kids' furniture. We ordered my son's bedroom furniture from them and the quality is excellent. We had previously ordered some storage shelves/units from them and I highly recommend their stuff. Just read the reviews of specific items to be sure.

We are considering Land of Nod for my daughter's first "big girl" bed but their merchandise is available online only.
Thanks, I'll check them out. I do like the Land of Nod's line, but a friend of mine had such a bad experience with their customer service that I'm wary of using them.
Oh, bad customer service is particularly annoying when using an online vendor. We ended up buying the Catalina bed from pottery barn kids. It was on sale and we had a 10% promo so the price was great. I had really wanted to avoid veneers as well but our budget for her room was $1500 to $2000 (and mattresses are expensive!) and I could not find an all wood set I liked in that range.
Generally, I've been unhappy with the quality of most of the furniture chains. It seems like nothing is built to last!
Especially if you are using dark woods like espresso-stained. Even the solid wood furniture we have, which is most of it, shows every nick and scratch like crazy. I wish honey colored wood furniture would come back in style!

I know! I love the look of the dark wood and we bought an expensive dining room set in espresso which is already worn with scratches. Our DD was just a baby when we got it and I think I underestimated the destructive abilities of a toddler
