I have two dogs and will be relocating to Asheville in a few weeks
coming from Florida, I am used to giving my dogs heartworm pills every month. Since their pills run out in October and I need new one's I wanted to know if people give their dogs heartworm protection all year, or is it just needed in the warm month?
Thank's
Ironically, we took our dog to the vet this morning and asked her about that. We are still in South Florida but are planning on moving to North Carolina after the first of the year. We asked her about the heartworm medication and she said to still give it all year round. Apparently they have had dogs get heartworms in all 50 states now. And it is better to be safe than sorry.
Most pills protect from all kinds of parasites, not just heartworms, so its best to give all pets protection year round. Hook worms are especially bad in WNC.
