My guess is they had to back into some budget and with the adj nominal tax rates, other stuff had to go.
Won't change my life, but for the first time since we got to NC, we may consider doing the FL rez thing, mostly to cap/curb our FL house RE taxes...dunno.
I always wondered 'where' all the tax revs went/how they got spent, during the halcyon days of the early-mid 2000s...
or 'where' all the 'Education Lotto' dough goes?
The elected geniuses, at any level, will always spend more than 'we send', and that spending will be difficult to actually 'see' in everyday life, imo.

At the time you brought up this discussion in April I was concerned that your erroneous advice would result in problems for you and others reading that. Can you get your "accountant" to cover your 2013 penalty? We had a penalty for 2013 because we did not pay any NC taxes for the 6 months we lived here. I didn't know what taxes would be until I filed. We both have Virginia state pensions and have been making quarterly payments to NC DOR for 2014 to avoid a penalty. Turbo Tax had it right. Now we all have the same tax rate: 5.7%
AAB,
Many of us had that bad feeling for your situ, and some of us suggested in posts that your CPA was incorrect in their judgment or interpretation.
We just finished our 2013 stuff and off it went to our long time NJ/NY CPA.
As I wrote before, it will be very interesting to see what the NC tax code changes do and affect our 2014 NC taxes.
If considerable, we may have to go to Plan B, which is Plan FL.

Yes I will be looking for a new accountant next year.
At any rate, AAB, I am happy you decided to come back in here and set the record straight. I imagine it must've taken quite a bit of courage to do that, and I applaud your decision to do so.

Thank you for that.
I feel horrible that some may have looked at this and God forbid get audited. I hope that is not the case.
Soooo, is he going to fess up and pay any penalties for you?
I have not spoken to him about this. I have to think that he would be obligated to do this if that were the case.
