I am planning a day trip tomorrow from Greenville SC to Asheville. I will hopefully be utilizing handicapped parking. In DT Greenville the city allows those with handicap permits to park in any municipal lot or garage for free and waives the time limits for on-street parking. Is there anything similar in Asheville? I am really concerned about the hills with my arthritic knees and hip.

Interestingly, the City does not appear to have an online link or other contact info to contact the Dept of Parking Services.

I hope you're not basing your visit on FREE parking. OK that said.

I have a very very close friend who is paralyzed from his breast down and must use an electric wheelchair with a good sized handicapped van.
First I have noticed in some stores handicapped spaces are smaller than a reg space, what's up with that? Second if you can walk an entire wally world or mall you shouldn't have a handicapped plate or placard. Lastly the LEO community should/must start ticketing idiots who ILLEGALLY Park in these spots. I had to embarrass an officer here in Henderson County to ticket these folk, We couldn't find one of the larger spots in a local big box store so we dropped him off in front of the store then I went and parked in the back of the parking lot. I walked up the the deputy parked on the side of the store while he was texting and asked why 12 of the 16 people in the handicapped spots didn't have proper ID on their car, I got a well uh you know excuse. I called the sheriff's department right in front of him and within a minute he was writing tickets. We went in the store and came out an hour or so later and he was still writing. Poor Poor officer had to do his job.
Good luck and don't let being handicapped deter your doings!
