The forests, the mountains, the rivers...yes, this is my new home and I love it!
This town definitely feels different from the rest of rat race America.

How's everyone doing?

Hey SW, welcome to Gods country. I am doing OK, thanks for asking. Sounds like you are adjusting quite well to your new home. I'm sure that the rest of the gang will be coming on shortly to welcome you.

Welcome to the mountains! Every day I look at the mountains as I drive to and from my office. I can't believe how lucky I am to be surrounded by such beautiful scenery all day long

Welcome ! You arrived at a beautiful time of the year -- and the mountains have already drawn you in.
The longer you live here, and the more you explore everything the area has to offer, the more you will love it.

Ask away if you have any questions, we share.

I do have a few questions:

1. What are your top 2 or 3 favorite local restaurants? I can't wait to try the wide variety of food available here in Asheville, so many restaurants to choose from, so feel free to offer any food recommendations.

I am a little worried about finding a good pizza joint though, I mean NC isn't known for pizza right?

2. I love nature, so do tell me about all the natural wonders that are worth visiting. I plan to tour the Blue Ridge parkway some time this fall, people have already recommended that to me numerous times.

3. Aside from all the positives in Asheville, is there any thing or any place here I should avoid?

1. If you are into Indian food try Mela. They have an all you can eat lunch for $9.95. It's excellent. For pizza I like Pizza Pura in the River Arts District.

2. I am lucky in that I can walk from my place to the Blue Ridge Pkwy, and hike the trail.

3. About the only place that I get just a bit hyper vigilant is by Pritchard Park. Just to put into perspective it's nowhere near as dangerous as some of the hoods that I walk in NYC. Anywhere else in Asheville I'm perfectly fine.

Welcome, hope you'll love it here, we do! So many great places to eat hard to decide try: Katmandu, Laughing Seed (super veggie food even if you aren't) Stoney Knob and Glass Onion in Weaverville, Early Girl, Sunnyside (breakfast burrito) in West Asheville, White Duck Taco, am sure others have their favorites. Places to go sooo many: Mt. Mitchell, Graveyard Fields and eat at the Pisgah Inn, Dupont State Park to see Waterfalls and then Oscar Blues tasting room, Hot Springs soak in the tubs, Richmond Hill Park for close by. Chime in guys don't want to hog this theme. Impossible to be bored around here in IMHO. Great time of year embrace and enjoy! Glad you are here.

You're getting great suggestions from our foodie network on here. Since I'm a pizza lover (being from the northeast) it is one of my favorite subjects.

You can do a quick search on right here in the search box in the city-data for our fairly recent "Best Pizza" thread right from the foodies' mouths. You have no worries here with the quality of pizza in the greater Asheville area; we've imported some good/great pizza makers over the past few years. When I need a quick pizza fix, I run up to Marco's Pizza on Rt. 25 in So. Asheville.

As for my own favorite restaurants: Vincenzo's in downtown Asheville (owner is from NY) awesome; The Corner Kitchen in Biltmore Village; and ditto the others mentioned here. You are in foodie heaven.

It has been declared a right of passage to try them all out and report back to us.

Welcome! I'll chime in.

1. Homegrown is my favorite. Then White Duck Taco. Sunny Pointe for breakfast.

2. No single natural wonder stands out. They are all wonderful. RomanticAsheville.com has a ton of great lists of things to see in the area.

3. Everyone will say something different here, but I try to avoid south Asheville and Hendersonville Road -- too much traffic and too many franchises for me, although I do love the Carolina Cinemas down there.

Hope you enjoy your new home! I'm sure you'll love it.
