I think access to Enka Lake is exclusive to Biltmore Lake residents only. It is neither a bad neighborhood nor a bad area.

People don't swim in Beaver Lake do they ? ick! they can kayak evidently, remember the woman who got rabies from being bitten by a beaver. There are many lakes around here that (to me) are not swim-worthy at all. Lake Junaluska does not allow swimming as far as I know, and several do not allow motorized boats.

Enka Lake was just partially dredged and cleaned up. You can swim in the lake. They do not allow motorized boats either. And fishing is catch and release.

I believe you have to own propery in the Beaver lake community to use the lake. It is not open to the public.

That is true, but I thought the OP was looking for a place to live.

What is the problem with Lake Junaluska ? I've been googling it, not coming up with much, but did come up with the following so am curious.

I am pretty sure there is no swimming in Lake Junaluska. They do have a very large swimming pool and an aquatic center at their complex; nor motorized boats or other craft. Kayak, paddle boats etc.

Within 1 hour of Asheville has very few actual lake living options. Enka/Biltmore Lake is really about the only feasible option. Lake Lure would be a hard daily commute especially in winter. There is also lake toxaway but again, a rough commute daily.

but why not, is what I was wanting to know. Doesn't seem pollution is the problem which is what I was thinking it must be .
