Do it now before they release the coal ash in the water from Duke energy. Remember some lakes and ponds have the brain eating amoeba so wear a nose clip. Have fun...

Here is Lake Lure (man-made lake), naked.

Article from this morning's Times-News:

Water levels at Lake Lure lowered for repairs; to be refilled in March - News - Hendersonville Times-News - Hendersonville, NC

I hope they clean up all the dog poop floating in there.

Is Lake Lure the closest lake to AVL or are there others around?

Beaver Lake (north of the city off Merrimon Ave.) and Lake Julian (south of the city) are closer than Lake Lure. Swimming is not allowed in either, if thats a consideration.

That's good to know for fishing but what other lakes are near that you can swim in?

^^^ Often polluted.

We stayed there quite often in our RV while looking for property around here; the campground itself is nice.

If you take 276 out of Boone up into the Pisgah Forest, you'll find two places to swim, not counting Sliding Rock. There is Looking Glass Falls, which has a pool under the falls. My favorite, though, is the Coontree Recreation Area. There are bathrooms, water and picnic tables at the parking lot (fills up very quickly in the morning) and a very short stroll takes you over to the Davidson River. The river is very shallow there for the most part but it has a pool that's deep enough to jump off the small cliff.

I don't think you meant Boone. Did you mean to write Brevard?
