Can anyone give any insight on living in Stecoah near Robbinsville. Does that area get a lot of snow or crazy storms? Can one get cell service? Do the creeks ever flood? Does Sylva have jobs? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There is weather data in the C-D profile of Robbinsville, as Stecoah may be too small. Robbinsville gets 3-4 inches of snow in January and February. It would help to have a 4-wheel drive vehicle, but those are not huge snowfalls.

Others on the forum report that cell service can be difficult in the mountains, depending on where one in relation to the tower and whether reception is blocked by mountains.

Most of the people who live in Sylva have jobs in recreation, retail, construction and accomodations and food service. You might also look at Cherokee and the casino industry.

Stecoah is in a valley, so I am sure there is a chance of flooding. You could check with Floodsmart.gov for the rating of a specific address.

FYI, if you are still wondering as a Graham County resident of 20 years the county does have some wild weather. Robbinsville and/or Stecoah weather is not indicative of the whole county which has a wide variety of microclimes. Here in the northern (lower end) part of GC we get quite a lot of frontal passage upslope snow (2,000' NW slope/15-20" most years) and some severe storms at times. Many times we are the only place in WNC to receive these events. But, it keeps things interesting in my opinion!

No cell service in this area but many places have good coverage. And yes, creeks flood here, usually not predicted and resulting from thunderstorms hanging out in one area and dumping copious amounts of rain in the headwaters causing flash flooding, but that's true pretty much in any mountainous areas.
