Lakeland, Florida-based supermarket Publix is currently constructing a 49,582-square-foot store, store 1548, at the site of the former Kmart #9547, 1620 Blowing Rock Road, Boone, North Carolina 28607-6144, the southwest quadrant of Blowing Rock Road and Postal Drive in the city of Boone in Watauga County, North Carolina.
Postal Drive was realigned to a traffic signalized intersection with Blowing Rock Road and Cracker Barrel #695, 1601 Blowing Rock Road, Boone, North Carolina 28607-6145.
Publix #1548 is projected to open in the second quarter of 2017. I have read Publix will begin hiring for the store.

Publix #1548 opens today. It is Publix's 1,146th store and 1,038th in-store pharmacy chain-wide; of that, it is the 24th store and 24th in-store pharmacy in North Carolina.

I've nearly moved to Boone twice over the past 8+ years - of course, being a smaller area, shopping is somewhat limited (no Target!) - there is relatively new Harris Teeter in Boone proper - but, this new Publix (if like all new Publix locations) will dominate the area
We were up there last weekend and they had a worker out in the parking lot to let people know they weren't open yet. I think it will be very popular. It's in a good location.

The opening of Publix #1548 should be a sign for Harris Teeter #165 to make improvements. Harris Teeter #165 could add a pharmacy department after Rite Aid #11545 closes due to Rite Aid being acquired by Walgreen's.
I haven't been in the new Publix yet, but my friends have said that it's been crazy-busy.
