My kids are all at an age where fire safety needs to be learned. Back home in the midwest most of the fire stations offered an open house once a year. They would usually have hot dogs and a coke for a few bucks, a few carnival games set up, and then some stations set up for the kids to learn about fire safety......like crawling low through obstacles to avoid 'smoke' and what not.
Are there any places within an hour of Asheville that does anything similar?
It sounds to me that if you are having a little trouble finding something like what you are looking for, you should organize such an event! It would be easy to do through either the local libraries in cooperation with fire houses, or the local community recreation center and the fire houses. As long as the word got out there, I can imagine the program would be filled up in no time and a 2nd and 3rd date would need to be added. Fire safety education is a great idea!
