More than a month ago, a friend of mine told me that the company she worked for (a grocery store) had a couple of people quit and they were going to replace both of them. I was able to get in for an interview, and 3 days after the interview, the hiring manager (who is not the STORE manager) called me and said that I was hired. I went in and filled out all of my hiring paperwork, and my start date was supposed to be June 1st.
3 days before I was supposed to start, I got a phone call from the hiring manager saying that the store manager had quit, and that they would start me once they had a new store manager in place.
I've been calling this hiring manager once a week ever since he told me that I was hired, but he always tells me that the store is still in turmoil and he will let me know. My friend tells me that since the first manager quit, they've had 2 other temporary managers come in, but they can't seem to find a permanent replacement.
Should I just give up on this? It doesn't seem like a place I would really want to work because of all of the turmoil, but I really do need a job.

You should keep looking. Maybe it will eventually come through for you, but if you can find something better (and better run), you might as well take it.
