Life is not fair. Sometimes other people get away with the same things...that is the way it is. Move on...and realize that you always need to follow all the rules, no matter what anyone else is doing...because...Life is not fair. You will get another job...people get fired all the time, and get new jobs...move on.
There are pro-bono attorney's, and legal aid. I've only told them the facts, and I have the papers they are asking me for. Right now, we are just in the "talking it over" stage, exploring the options. And yes, on other accounts, I have also been discriminated against. I have in the past at my job and just let it go, when it comes to playing a role in me losing my job, that's when I have had enough of playing the "nice stepping stone".
There is MORE to this :
Are you banking on discrimination ?
What else do you have ?
Let's say you are hispanic. ( example only ) Were all hispanics terminated immediately for drinking coke they did not pay for but all whites were given the green light ?
I shake my head at your lawyer.
You have got legal aid and pro bonos involved....This is like the Erin Brockdonvich case ??
Because it does not matter your nationality. It matters that you did not pay before consuming.
But is this going to be turned into a race issue ?
Its likely : You will never work again in your town.
I have to agree with this based on some experience. No one wants to hire someone who sues their employer. While it does happen, it is rare on the rung on the ladder of employment you are on. Risk Management would go ballistic and the smaller the town the worse you'll have it. That goes double for here and now with so many people competing for work.
I'm not going to speak to whether you are right or wrong - you could be right 100% and you may win a battle but lose the war. This will follow you like a cloud and you need to seriously find out and think about whether it is really worth it in the long run. Will a nominal monetary gain, and I do mean nominal, worth the damage you will bring on yourself in the long run. Based on where you worked and how long you worked there indicates you will not be walking away with a windfall of cash. You'd be lucky to get 6 months salary as a settlement - but then what are you going to do?
Many women walk out of their jobs over sexual harassment instead of suing because of the long term employability damage it would cause.
Case or no case you really need to weigh this information before you do anything drastic. Pick your battles carefully.
So how's it going with the Sharpton deal and the pro-bono deals and all the other deals in the making. Progress made? Curious minds wait with bated breath and anxiously await the next update!
All right, all right let's stop picking on the OP already, people. If the breach of policy and a couple of attendance issues are her worst transgressions, I hope she abandons this litigious route and focuses on getting back to earning an honest living.
Just an aside to this, I went to hear a speaker and office theft was one of the topics he covered. Expenditures for office supplies during August - September tend to spike because that stuff - from note pads, pencils, pens, folders to post its are all school supplies. It's the number one offiice theft.
companies should let employees share that stuff and stop being so petty
We have both been looking for work amidst taking care of this issue. All the while, waiting on my unemployment. Thank you.
