If you pay rent to them and they claim your rent as income and you are not claimed as a dependant on their income taxes you may well qualify for assistance, only a welfare officer can tell you for sure and you have to prove your income is at poverty level. Poverty levels are calculated by the average income in each state so it varies. You also cannot have any ownership of anything.

Welfare will also put you in a 'welfare to work' program which includes mandatory attendance to training classes and work assistance programs. In other words - you can't just sit at home on the sofa watching television and stuffing your pie-hole all day every day.

The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 (PRWORA, Pub.L. 104-193, 110 Stat. 2105, enacted August 22, 1996) is a United States federal law considered to be a fundamental shift in both the method and goal of federal cash assistance to the poor. The bill added a workforce development component to welfare legislation, encouraging employment among the poor.

Current welfare rules ensure that individuals who work are better off financially than if they do not work
  • All welfare to work participants receive an orientation to the program and an appraisal of their education and employment background.
  • Initially, most individuals receive job search services (assistance in finding a job).
Additional employment-related services are provided based on an individual's education and work history. Individuals may be assigned to:
  • Unpaid work experience/preparation.
  • Vocational training placements.
  • Adult education or community college programs.

Why on earth would you do that? It doesn't sound like a good path to set out on, IMO.

I would be careful with not having any job at all too long, because the longer you're unemployed, the less employable you become.

Has the OP has given up on the dream of being homeless in Hawaii? No aspirations anymore? Does he even live in this hemisphere?

Possibly, but good luck getting laid. Ok, in all seriousness, I think Z3N1TH 0N3 and Dhanu86 make very important points. Also, read over Thursday's information.

They probably are feeding him. My guess is he just wants the food stamps so he can sell them.
